Following the eruption of the volcano Vesuvius in the year 79 A.D., Pompei laid buried and forgotten for hundreds of years. The excavations brought to light fabulously preserved frescoes which adorned the walls and floors of the Villas, an amphitheatre and anything could prove the prosperity of this town in the past. The archaeological excavations are still being carried out today in order to give modern society the treasure of the past. Herculaneum was destroyed, together with Pompei, by the eruption of the Vesuvius in the year 79 A.D. It was a residential area, not holding Pompei's business prominence, but full of well-to-do Romans' opulent villas. When the catastrophe of 79 A.D. occurred, the town was submerged under a torrent of mud and lava that hardned into a soft tuff. A large portion of treasures lie buried under the rock, so excavations are still being carried out. – Scheduled on: Sundays – Entrance fee: Pompei Ruins Euro 11,00 / Hercolaneum Ruins Euro 11,00 – Additional lunch charge: Euro 13,00 – Price per person: Euro 56,50 (adults) - Euro 45,20 (children) |
